Crews responded to seven crashes near Wisconsin Dells that left a firefighter injured and a driver dead.

Officials say a firefighter who was struck on a busy interstate near Wisconsin Dells during a snow storm over the weekend is in stable condition.

Lake Delton firefighter Joe Sabol responded to a crash on Interstate 90/94 on Sunday and was standing next to an apparatus when he was struck by a driver who lost control of their car.

According to Wisconsin Dells Events, Sabol, a 13-year member of the department, was transported to St. Clare Hospital.

“All of us working out there need you to slow down and give us a break," Delton Fire Chief Darren Jorgenson said. "Firefighter Sabol is lucky to be alive and by the grace of God he will be able to make a full recovery.”

Firefighters responded to seven crashes in the same area in less than two hours.

One crash left a 57-year-old woman dead, according to Madison.com.

“Since my husband’s injury, we have been getting a lot of offers of help and what I would really like is your help to remember that the men and women working out there have families, too, who need them to come home,” Amanda Sabol said. “Please make this incident the last of its kind and slow down.”
