A fast moving apartment building fire in Salem killed a man and sent several people to the hospital for treatment.

A fast moving apartment building fire in Salem killed a man and sent several people to the hospital for treatment including a woman who jumped from the third floor to escape the flames.

According to WMUR, a local television station, the fire was reported late Saturday night by the fire alarm system. When firefighters arrived, one woman was hanging out a third-story window and dropped to the ground to escape the smoke and fire.

A total of four people were rescued from the building and several were hospitalized for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Some of the victims were trapped above the fire, the television station reported. One of the victims removed from the fire died as a result of the injuries, the station reported.

It has been reported that as many as 30 people were displaced by the fire at 99 Cluff Crossing Road, WMUR reported. Salem's Human Services Director is now coordinating donation which can be dropped off at the city’s police or fire station.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation, according to the television station.
