TX City Weighs $30K Bonus to Expedite Fire Station Project

Feb. 18, 2018
Sherman is considering a $30,000 incentive to complete the fire station project 30 days early.

The Sherman City Council will consider offering a bonus for the early completion of the city's new fire station No. 4 during its regular meeting Monday at 5 p.m. in the council chambers of City Hall, 220 W. Mulberry St.

If approved, the incentive to expedite the competition of the new fire station in the city's Progress Park industrial area would pay Crossland Construction, the construction manager at risk on the project, $30,000 to complete the job 30 days early and $1,000 for every day sooner that it finishes.

The sooner the new fire station is operational, the sooner operations can move out of the Black Fire Station No. 4 on the southeast corner of U.S. Highway 75 and FM 1417, where Schulman's Movie Bowl Grille is planning an entertainment and retail development. The early completion of the new fire station would allow Schulman's to accelerate its construction schedule.

The council will also hold public hearings on the establishment of a new industrial reinvestment zone and a tariff authorizing an annual rate review system to allow the city a better opportunity to review changes to Atmos Energy Corp.'s revenues and expenses

The city's budget calendar for the fiscal year 2018-2019 will also be considered, as will a plan to hold a public hearing on a proposed tax abatement agreement with Finisar Corp.

A contract for professional engineering services will be considered to design work to the Lamberth Road stream crossings along the east fork of Post Oak Creek and East Lamberth.

The council will consider the execution of a pair of development agreements for public facilities in a 17.112-acre development along Dripping Springs Road and a 4.085-acre development off FM 1417.

A $21,199.10 change order increase for the Sherman Industrial Park Replacement Sewer Project will also be considered.

The council will also consider calling a special meeting on March 28 for a training workshop and will go into a closed, executive session near the end of the meeting. The executive session will allow the council to consider personnel matters, economic development negotiations and consult with the city attorney about pending litigation. The council will return to open session to take any actions deemed necessary on the matters discussed during the executive session.
