Flames consumed the American Legion Ambulance Association station and destroyed six ambulances.

Four EMS workers escaped a fire that destroyed the American Legion Ambulance Association building in Woodstown early Monday.

The fire was reported around 4 a.m. and quickly engulfed the one-story structure.

Six of the agency's seven ambulances were destroyed by the fire, according to NBC Philadelphia.

"One of the EMTs walked past and said there were four crew members in the building and all made it out safely," a resident told NJ.com. "I was impressed at how fast the firefighters seemed to get it under control. It's a terrible loss for (Woodstown), but I'm so happy that nobody was hurt."

The NBC report indicated that a crew member woke up and notified the others about the fire.

Several explosions were reported inside the structure and officials said it came from oxygen tanks.

The ambulance agency protects 14,000 residents and employees dozens of EMS workers.
