GA Fire Captain Dies During Fitness Training

A firefighter in southeast Georgia has died after falling ill during department mandated physical fitness training.

Hinesville Fire Department Capt. Earnest McDuffie, 51, was engaged in a running exercise Tuesday at a local park when he became unresponsive, according to a release by the U.S. Fire Administration.

Colleagues immediately rendered CPR to McDuffie, who was then transported to Liberty Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

McDuffie had served with the Hinesville department for 16 years.
