On Monday morning August 21st at 0853 hours the Franklin County 911 Centerrecieved a call reporting a vehicle accident involving a dump truck and a mini van on Forge Hill Road in Lurgan Township injuries unknown.
At 0859 hours EMS Captain 11 form the Pleasant Hall Vol Fire Company arrived on scene to find a tri-axle dump truck with drivers entire right leg trapped between the dump bed and cab and a mini van approximately 100 feet away from the truck with an elderly couple still inside, the driver sustaining severe trauma to his left arm and the passenger sustaining minor lacerations.
The driver of the dump truck had to be extricated using the Vetter Air Bag System and stabilization equipment, the driver of the van was easily extricated due to the entire left side had been torn away on impact.
Both drivers were transported by BLS units to a landing zone 1 mile from the scene where they were air lifted to York Hospital by Life Lion.
The passenger of the van was transported by a BLS unit to the Chambersburg Hospital.
Assisting Pleasant Hall EMS crews on the scene were, Engine 2-51, Ambulance 2-53 & Medic 84 (of Cumberland County), Resque Squad 15, Engine 12-1, Ambulances 13-8, 1-9 & 12-9, Medic 101 (of Franklin County) and Life Lion Helicopter (of Hershey).
The cause of the accident is still under investigation by the Pennsylvania State Police in Chambersburg.
