The city of Deltona won't let firefighters go pink. They want to wear pink t-shirts to support breast cancer survivors, but city officials say it violates their contracts. However, it may be more politics at play than just pink shirts.

Deltona firefighters are dealing with one hot issue that has nothing to do with fire.

"That affects a lot of people, and when they hear about it they find it ridiculous," Deltona Professional Firefighters' President Kurt Vroman said.

Sept. 02--ENTERPRISE -- Mike Moore of Joseph was arrested Aug. 16 and charged with first-degree theft and theft by deception while serving as the secretary/treasurer of the Joseph Fire Department.

Moore had served on the department as a firefighter for four years and as secretary/treasurer for two, Fire Chief Tom Clevenger said.

Sept. 02--Alameda city officials have placed Fire Chief Dave Kapler on administrative leave amid allegations that he inappropriately used the fire department's gas pumps to fuel his personal vehicles.

Kapler was placed on leave as of Thursday morning, Mayor Beverly Johnson said.

Interim City Manager Ann Marie Gallant offered no reason for pulling Kapler off duty when she announced her decision, Johnson said.

The mayor gave no other details about the move, saying it was a personnel issue.

Sept. 02--A small fire damaged Promise Regional Medical Center's newly renovated Heart and Vascular Center about 4:30 a.m. Wednesday, but no patients were endangered and the center was quickly functioning again.

Fire was limited to an incubator in one of the laboratories, said Hutchinson Fire Department Battalion Chief Darin Gehring. One automatic sprinkler came on and contained the fire until firefighters arrived, he said.

"The sprinklers did exactly what they were intended to do," he said.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. --

The Channel 4 I-Team has learned that a Nashville fire captain has been removed from his position and could lose his job after he was caught broadcasting himself on a pornographic webcam site while on duty.

Someone who was communicating with Capt. Jeff Piercy through the webcam alerted the Channel 4 I-Team and told fire officials about the incident.

At least one person was injured after a rig explosion in the Gulf of Mexico.
