Remains Of 20 WTC Victims Recovered Over The Weekend

Courtesy of NY1 News

Recovery crews continue to find victims’ remains in the seventh month of searching at the World Trade Center site.

Twenty bodies have been unearthed this weekend, between Friday night and Sunday morning.

Among those found are six firefighters. The medical examiner's office has also positively identified one of the bodies as court officer William "Harry" Thompson.

The remains of more than 70 people have been discovered this month. The increased pace of recovery came after a temporary ramp for excavation vehicles was removed, allowing crews to reach the crushed lower levels of the south tower, which was the first to fall.

According to the city’s latest official tally, the total of missing and dead is 2,830. The medical examiner has identified and issued death certificates for 802 victims, and 1,873 death certificates have been issued without a body, at the family’s request. The remaining 155 names are considered missing people.
