The city's Emergency Medical Service union wants to implement mandatory counseling for its members, following the suicide of a Brooklyn EMT devastated by 9/11.
Union spokesman Robert Ungar said it will propose to the FDNY a critical-stress debriefing program requiring mandatory counseling after a crisis.
More than 3,000 FDNY members have sought counseling after 9/11, said a department spokesman.
Last Friday, EMT Daniel E. Stewart, 27, hanged himself because of the heartache he suffered from pulling out body parts at Ground Zero.
