Massachusetts Brush Fire Claims Chief

RUSSELL, MA -- A Massachusetts firefighter lost his life Thursday afternoon while battling a 500-acre mountain fire.

John Murphy, 64, Deputy Chief of the Russell Fire Department, suffered an apparant heart attack while was battling the fire. He was a member of the department for more than 30 years.

Both sons are also volunteers and were battling the same fire. Funeral details were not immediately available.

The death was the third this week as the major brush fires are raging throughout the country. Earlier this week, two firefighters in Kentucky were killed as they battled a brush fire.
