Paramedic Treavor Johnston, a 3-year-veteran of Spartanburg County, South Carolina, EMS
was shot in the face while on a routine emergency call on Sunday night.
According to Don Lundy, President of the SCEMS Association, the incident was a routine call and there
did not appear to be weapons involved when the call was dispatched.
The victim, who speaks very little English according to Lundy, was talking with paramedics through
her hurband when she was informed that she could not be transported to Atlanta, Georgia. The victim
retrieved a .38-caliber handgun and shot Johnston one time in the face. The woman was being held by police pending
further psychiatric evaluations.
The bullet went in between the upper lip and nose and was lodged a short distance from the spine (near C-2, C-3),
according to Lundy. It was not known how severe the wound was and whether the damage to the spinal cord
would be permanent.
Johnson was listed in fair condition at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center on Tuesday, upgraded from
serious.
