Medic Killed in Collision with Tractor-Trailer

An Acadian Ambulance paramedic, 32-year-old Keith Knight, was killed in a traffic accident involving an 18-wheeler in Beauregard Parish, Lousiana on Thursday, May 20.

His partner, Paramedic Kathy Fuselier was taken by Air Med helicopter to Lake Charles Memorial Hospital in critical condition, suffering from pelvis, bilateral femur, and tib/fib fractures.

Area medics involved in the call are undergoing Critical Incident Stress Debriefing conducted by the Acadian Ambulance CISM Team.

The ambulance was returning from Dequincy to Lake Charles and was not on an emergency call and had no patient on board. The accident occurred on LA 12, 2 miles west of Ragley which is 23 miles north of Lake Charles.

Paramedic Knight was a Fire Chief in Beauregard Parish and is survived by his wife and two young children.
