Philadelphia Firefighter Dies After Blaze

A seven-year veteran of the Philadelphia, PA Fire Department collapsed and died Monday morning after returning to the station following a house fire.

Eric Casiano, 41, collapsed in the quarters of Engine 2 where he was assigned and rushed to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead about an hour later. He leaves behind a wife and two daughters. According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, he was previously decorated for bravery.

Casiano died of internal bleeding after appararntly injuring his spine when he fell through a hole in the floor during the early morning fire. He didn't initially complain of an injury until getting back to the station. Casiano didn't respond to the next call and when the crew returned to the station they found him unresponsive on the floor, the Inquirer reported. He was pronounced dead at a local hospital a short time later.

A viewing will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday at St. Helena's Church, 6161 N. Fifth St. with the funeral on Friday at 10 a.m.
