WV Volunteer Dies Responding to Call

A volunteer firefighter from the Bethany Volunteer Fire Department in Bethany, West Virginia suffered a fatal heart attack while on duty Sunday.

Arch Russell Sligar, Jr., 52, was responding mutual aid to a structural fire when he suffered the heart attaack in the cab of the engine in which he was riding. Initial efforts to revive were succcessful, but CPR was started enroute to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Bethany is about 25 miles northeast of Wheeling, West Virginia, a small community of about 500.

Funeral services are scheduled for Friday in Bethany.
