It is with deep regret that we report the death of Firefighter Richard Heinze, 47, of Newark, New Jersey Truck 12.

Heinze died on Friday, June 4, 1999 after returning to quarters from an early-morning run.

He collapsed in the bunkroom and went into full arrest. CPR was immediately administered and medics were called to the scene. Despite prolonged efforts to revive him, the 27-year veteran was pronounced dead.

Heinze was a former president of the Newark Firefighter's Union and had been recognized for valor, according to the Newark Star-Ledger.

He leaves behind a wife, Sharon; two sons; his mother; a sister; and a brother.

Viewing will be on Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the O'Boyle Funeral Home on Broad Street in Bloomfield, N.J. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday at the Sacred Heart Church, also on Broad Street in Bloomfield.

Contributions can be made to the St. Barnabas Medical Center Burn Foundation.
