CHICAGO, IL, JULY, 14, 2019—CFD responded to a report of a truck on fire on the Stevenson Expressway. First-arriving engine requested additional companies and foam as well as a Level 1 hazmat response. The CFD utilized a five engine relay to start the foam operation and contain the fire until the arrival of an ARFF truck from nearby Midway Airport that was able to extinguish the remainder of the fire.

Branford, CT, July 24, 2019—Firefighters rushed to prevent a massive explosion as flames from a burning mobile home threatened a large propane cylinder. The late afternoon fire in a mobile home park claimed the life of a resident who became trapped when the fire broke out. Radiant heat from the blaze also caused extensive damage to an adjacent home. A rapid intervention team (RIT) from the Guilford, CT, Fire Department assisted Branford Firefighters with the one-alarm blaze.

Santa Maria, CA, July 20, 2019—A large fire broke out at a metal recycling yard in shortly before 7 a.m. Santa Maria Fire Department Engine 2 arrived to find fifteen vehicles well involved, spreading to adjacent piles of recycling material and requested a water supply. Hydrants are limited in the area, so the crews had to lay supply lines a great distance, relay pump and shuttle to E2. All four of Santa Maria’s engines, the truck company, breathing support, and battalion chief responded, as well as a water tender from Santa Barbara County Station 22.

Erving, MA, July 30, 2019—Firefighter Jay Nelson of the Northfield, MA, Fire Department was one of many to respond to a fire caused by a lightning strike. The fire quickly went to 3 alarms due to lack of water supply. An extensive overhaul peeling back the roof was required.
