The buildings on either side were catching fire because of wind. Crews made entry to search while hoselines were pulled. After the all-clear was given on potential victims, the crews fought the fires in all three locations while protecting themselves from compromised overhead powerlines. Firefighters brought the fire under control in about an hour. The main building was home to the original Juneteenth Museum for nearly 20 years.

ROCHESTER, NY, NOV. 15—The Rochester Fire Department was dispatched for the report of smoke coming from a building. En route, Engine 5 found heavy smoke throughout the neighborhood. On arrival, the crew found a one-story commercial building with smoke showing. Crews stretched lines, made entry and advanced lines a good distance but reported little progress because of the heavy fire load. Command struck a second alarm, evacuated all companies and transitioned to an exterior attack because of deteriorating conditions. The roof collapsed minutes later.
