OH Firefighter Suffers Smoke Inhalation in House Blaze

May 1, 2019
Vandalia crews quickly put out a house fire early Wednesday that displaced two people and caused significant damage to the residence.

Two residents will not be able to stay in their home tonight after an early Wednesday fire occurred, which also resulted in a firefighter having to be treated for smoke inhalation, according to Vandalia Fire Chief Chad Follick.

Crews were dispatched to the 200 block of North American Boulevard and found flames coming from the house just before 2 a.m., per initial reports.

Fire officials say the two occupants and their animal were able to escape unharmed and were waiting outside for crews to arrive on scene.

Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the blaze, which started in a bedroom. The firefighter who suffered smoke inhalation is expected to be OK, officials say. His name was not released.

The house, which had no working smoke detectors, sustained significant damage in the fire. Damage estimates were not immediately available, though our crews witnessed workers boarding the house up.

A fire investigator determined the fire was accidental, officials say.

Red Cross was contacted and will aid the residents in their displacement.
