IN Firefighter Hospitalized from House Fire

No one was home when South Bend crews battled the blaze that broke out at the two-story residence early Tuesday.

SOUTH BEND, IN—A firefighter was treated at the hospital as a result of a house fire about 1:15 a.m. Tuesday at 406 E. Haney Ave.

Multiple dead cats were found in the structure after the fire was extinguished.

Fire crews were called to a fire at the two-story house, according to the South Bend Fire Department. No people were at home when the fire broke out, according to the fire department.

"Multiple felines were found deceased in this structure," the fire department stated in a news release.

Fire investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire.

Damage was listed at more than $21,400, which likely is more than the value of the house, according to the fire department.
