NEW HAVEN, CT — Firefighters in the city were busy Saturday night, handling two separate fires about an hour apart.

The first fire was reported around 6:30 p.m. in the 100 block of Front Street at an apartment building. Fire units on scene about 10 minutes later reported the bulk of the fire had been knocked down and crews were checking on hot spots.

Then, roughly an hour after the Front Street call, fire crews responded to 724 Grand Ave. for reports of smoke from the roof of a commercial building. The first fire units on scene reported smoke showing on the roof. Within minutes, firefighters called it a working fire. Officials soon confirmed the fire was in the ducts.

There was no immediate word on any injuries related to either fire.
