Two people were critically injured in an early morning blaze that burned through the roof and gutted a Jacksonville house Monday.

An early morning fire in North Jacksonville has left two people critically injured Monday, according to the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department.

Fire crews were called out about 6 a.m. to the home in the 9800 block of Bayview Avenue to battle the blaze, which was burning through the roof, fire officials said. A second alarm was called minutes later, then two people were pulled from the home just south of the Trout River with what the fire department called critical injuries.

The fire was called "under control" just before 7 a.m. by firefighters on the scene, and the state fire marshal has been called out to assist in the investigation.
