Hoarding Conditions Hampered OH Firefighters

June 14, 2019
Dayton crews were responding to reports of downed utility wires when they noticed smoke coming from a nearby house Friday morning.

Hoarding conditions in a Dayton home presented additional difficulties for firefighters battling a fire that broke out Friday morning.

Crews were initially dispatched to the area of North and Wroe avenues in Dayton around 11:20 a.m. on reports of utility wires down. While crews were investigating they discovered smoke coming from a house on North Avenue, investigators said.

First units that entered the house encountered hoarding conditions and requested additional crews to assist in locating and fighting the blaze, according to firefighters.

The fire was located in the basement of the home and was quickly extinguished.

One person was inside the home but was able to safely evacuate.

The cause of the fire is believed to be electrical.

No injuries were reported.
