About 100 San Antonio Firefighters Battle Apartment Fire

June 17, 2019
No one was hurt in Sunday's three-story building blaze in the Monte Vista neighborhood that had more than 40 San Antonio fire units responding.

More than 40 units from the San Antonio Fire Department were called to battle an apartment fire in the Monte Vista neighborhood Sunday afternoon, according to the department.

Firefighters responded to the three-story Magnolia Apartments, 301 W Magnolia Ave., about 3:20 p.m.

"This is our second fire in this type of heat this afternoon," Fire Chief Charles Hood said. "We've called out possibly 100 firefighters."

Hood said high temperatures take a toll on firefighters during an "extensive interior operation."

"We're doing a formal rehab on every firefighter on the fire ground," Hood said. "We're bringing in additional manpower to relieve these crews as quick as we can."

Authorities said the fire started on the second floor and then made its way up to the third floor. A cause has not yet been determined and damage estimates were not available, Hood said.

Only one person and a dog were home at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported, according to Hood.
