Two Killed by Semi Explosion on WI Interstate

A semi-tractor trailer crashed and exploded in Racine County on Wednesday, setting other vehicles on fire, injuring several others and shutting down part of Interstate 41/94.

At least two people were killed and several others injured when a semi-tractor trailer crashed and exploded on a Wisconsin interstate Wednesday.

The incident happened at around 11 a.m. on Interstate 41/94 in Racine County, WTMJ-TV reports. The explosion shut down a stretch of the interstate, and the Wisconsin Department of Transportation said that it is likely to take hours to clear the roadway.

The Racine County Medical Examiner said two people were killed in the accident, while the sheriff's said several people were injured, according to WTMJ. A Flight for Life helicopter tried to respond but was grounded by bad weather, and ground units were sent instead.

No details have been released as to how the crash or explosion happened.
