SAN DIEGO—A firefighter suffered a minor injury while battling a one-acre brush fire that broke out in the community of Sabre Springs on Tuesday, a San Diego fire official said.

Smoke was reported near Poway Road and Sabre Springs Parkway about 12:40 p.m., San Diego Fire-Rescue Deputy Chief Kelly Zombro said. Crews arrived about 10 minutes later and requested an increased response, which included two Department helicopters.

It took about an hour to stop the spread of the blaze. Fire officials did not immediately know what sparked the flames.

“Although there were houses in the path of the fire, they were never heavily threatened,” Zombro told OnScene TV.

Firefighters from Poway, Santee and Heartland Fire & Rescue also assisted with the incident.

Medics took one of the firefighters to Sharp Memorial Hospital for treatment of a knee injury suffered while helping douse the blaze. It was not clear what agency the firefighter was from.
