Fireworks Suspected of Sparking 2-Alarm CA Grass Fire

July 17, 2019
Vallejo firefighters quickly extinguished the flames from Wednesday's blaze before they could threaten a post office and liquor store.

Fireworks are suspected of igniting a two-alarm grass fire which briefly threatened the US Post Office building on Admiral Callaghan Lane early Wednesday morning.

Vallejo firefighters responded at about 1:30 a.m. to reports of multiple grass fires next to the post office and the freeway side of Eastbound Interstate-80 at the intersection of Henry Street and Admiral Callaghan Lane.

Crews quickly extinguished the fires before the flames could spread to the post office and nearby Wagon Wheel Liquors store.

Fire officials on scene said fireworks were the likely ignition source. A loud boom noise was heard in the area prior to the start of the blazes.

No injuries were reported.
