Aug. 13, 2019
The firefighter used the water he was carrying to an asphalt company to extinguish a burning pickup truck in Tuscarawas Township.

TUSCARAWAS TOWNSHIP, OHAn off-duty firefighter driving a truck hauling water was in the right place at the right time Monday when a vehicle caught fire on U.S. Route 30.

The firefighter in the water truck used his load to douse flames coming from a pickup that was on fire.

North Lawrence Fire Department said the fire was out by the time they arrived, and another good Samaritan was directing traffic at the scene.

Public Information Officer Brandon Johnston said the call came in at 2:42 p.m. on Route 30 just west of state Route 241.

The man was driving the water truck for an asphalt company and had stopped to put the fire out when he noticed the flames.

Area Wide Protective, a traffic control company, also was at the scene to direct traffic, Johnston said.

No injuries were reported.
