A mother and her baby trapped in a burning apartment building were rescued by New York crews early Tuesday.
The blaze broke out just after 1 a.m. in a Rochester building, and investigators are pointing to a malfunctioning air conditioner on the eighth floor as the cause, WHEC-TV reports. Although crews were able to control the fire quickly, a second alarm was sounded so firefighters could clear smoke from the building and conduct a search of the higher floors.
Once the woman and child were rescued from their apartment, they were evaluated at the scene for smoke inhalation. A man who suffered burns on his feet also was hospitalized.
