Fatal 3-Alarm Fire Injures MA Firefighter

Sept. 3, 2019
Two women were killed in a three-family house fire Monday in Everett that displaced six people. "It’s a very sad day to lose people in a house fire like this," Everett's fire chief said.

A fire in Everett has killed two people, officials said Monday morning.

The blaze broke out at 87 Madison Ave. shortly before midnight and went to three alarms, according to Jennifer Mieth, a spokeswoman for the state Department of Fire Services.

The two people killed have not been identified but were adults, Mieth said.

One firefighter suffered a minor injury, Mieth said.

Six people were displaced from the three-family home, which is a total loss, according to Mieth.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

City records indicate the building was assessed at $447,000 and was built around 1900. The building has three units and a total of six bedrooms.

“It’s a very sad day to lose people in a house fire like this,” Everett Fire Chief Tony Carli told WCVB News, which reported the two victims were women who were found on the second floor of the building.

A video on the Everett Firefighters Local 143 Facebook page shows heavy flames and smoke pouring out of the second floor of the building.
