Two Norfolk firefighters were taken to the hospital to be evaluated after responding to a blaze that broke out at a cold storage facility at Norfolk International Terminals.

Two firefighters were hospitalized after battling a two-alarm blaze at a Virginia shipping terminal early Monday.

The fire broke out at about 1:30 a.m. at Norfolk International Terminals, according to Norfolk Fire-Rescue. When crews arrived, they found a smoldering fire in the insulated walls of a cold storage facility.

Firefighters had problems reaching the flames because of the building's construction. Saws were used to expose the fire in the facility's roof and walls.

The blaze was finally under control at around 4:30 a.m., the department stated. Firefighters were expected to stay at the scene to take care of any hot spots.
