Two Tennessee firefighters were taken to the hospital after battling a two-alarm blaze late Monday.

Chattanooga crews responded to the fire at an apartment complex at 6:45 p.m., according to the department. Police were evacuating the apartments and heavy flames were seen coming from the building when firefighters arrived.

The fire damaged two upstairs units, and two downstairs units suffered smoke and water damage. A dog died in the blaze, but firefighters were able to rescue a snake from one of the apartments.

Two firefighters suffered heat-related injuries, and they were taken to the hospital, where they were treated and released, the department said. No residents were injured in the fire, which displaced four to five families.
