One Dead, Four Injured in NJ House Fire

One man was killed and four others were hurt when a two-alarm fire swept through a multi-family house in Newark on Wednesday morning.

One man was killed and four others were hurt when a two-alarm fire swept through a multi-family house in Newark on Wednesday.

One of the four injured - a man - is in critical condition while three others suffered minor injuries, Newark police said. The identity of the man killed in the blaze was not released.

Two pets who lived in the home on the 300 block of Summer Avenue were also killed.

It took 65 firefighters about 45 minutes to bring the fire in control. Seven adults who live in four units have been relocated. The cause and origin of the fire is under investigation.

A Newark police spokesman said he couldn’t immediately provide additional information. Earlier Wednesday, the spokesman said several people had been rescued by firefighters.
