FDNY firefighters helped residents trapped on a smoke-filled fire escape as crews battled an apartment blaze early Tuesday.
The fire broke out at around 7:30 a.m. on the first floor of a three-story apartment building in the East New York neighborhood of Brooklyn, according to the Citizen mobile app. Video from the scene shows plumes of thick, black smoke pour from the building as firefighters work to rescue people on a fire escape.
An FDNY battalion chief said crews had the fire under control just after 8:10 a.m., and no serious injuries were reported, according to the app. But EMS workers later reported that a firefighter was taken to the hospital with fire-related injuries, the app added.
