Polk County firefighters not only extinguished a second-story house blaze in Mulberry, but they also were able to rescue the family's Christmas tree and presents.

A Florida family experienced a house fire that consumed the second story of their home days before Christmas celebrations were to take place, but thanks to Polk County fire crews the family will still open presents come Christmas morning.

Polk County Fire Rescue responded to a call at 4:17 p.m. Saturday at a residence in the Preserve at the Sundance area of Mulberry, PCFR said in a Facebook post.

Crews arrived to find a 13-year-old girl evacuated the home, who informed them that she was unharmed and there were no other people or pets inside the home.

Firefighters were able to get control of the flames quickly, which were isolated to the second story.

Crew members then began removing the Christmas tree and presents on the first floor in an attempt to save them from damage, which they did so successfully.

Investigators believe the fire started in a second-story bedroom, while the young girl was on the first floor, however the exact location and cause are still being investigated.

The family is now be assisted by the Red Cross.
