Postal Worker Saves Christmas for Many as Truck Burns

Dec. 25, 2019
The mail carrier pulled packages as the U.S. Mail truck burned on the side of the road in Osawatomie.
He didn’t mail in that shift.

A mail truck driver in Kansas was delivering Christmas presents Sunday morning when his engine caught fire, ABC News reported. The man leaped into action, evacuating the packages from the burning truck and saving Christmas for residents of Osawatomie, Kan., about 60 miles southwest of Kansas City in eastern Kansas.

The front half of the truck was consumed by flames when firefighters arrived, but the back half was largely intact, which allowed the quick thinking, unidentified postal worker to save Christmas, according to ABC News.

The driver first noticed a problem when he saw and smelled smoke coming from the front of his truck, ABC News reported. No one was injured in the incident.

The presents and other packages were delivered by another mail truck, which scooped them off the side of the road.

Hopefully no similar problems befall Santa’s Sleigh on Christmas night.
