Dec. 30, 2019
Prince George's County fire officials said debris from the single-engine plane was spread throughout the area.

One person was killed when a small plane crashed into a New Carrollton home Sunday afternoon.

Prince George’s County Fire told WTOP that “bits and pieces of a small aircraft strewn across the area" after the single-engine plane crashed into a home on Auburn Avenue around 3 p.m.

The plane struck a car and hit the attic and carport of the home, Brady said.

“We heard the noise [a plane makes] as it is coming down, and as soon as we heard that noise, we heard an explosion from the other side [of the house],” off-duty police officer Edgar Andrickson told WTOP. “We looked outside and saw the house and car on fire, me and some friends went outside. The house caught on fire, a car was on fire, and the plane itself was on fire.”

No injuries were reported to people on the ground.

The Prince George's County Fire hazardous materials unit was called to the scene to evaluate the scene.

The Maryland State Police began investigating the crash, which occurred while a storm and fog were in the area. The FAA and NTSB were called to assist with the investigation.
