A Fort Worth firefighter was seriously injured when she was struck by a vehicle while at the scene of another accident early Tuesday.

Engine 11 was dispatched to a rollover crash near Texas Motor Speedway on Highway 114 just before 6 a.m.

Firefighter Shonna Moorman exited Engine 11 she "approached the front of the engine she heard the sound of a vehicle coming to a rapid stop behind her," according to a statement from the Fort Worth Fire Department. "Unfortunately she was unable to make it around the engine before being struck by a passenger vehicle."

Firefighters assessed those involved in the original accident and found minor injuries, allowing them to focus treatments efforts on Moorman.

She was transported to Baylor Grapevine hospital with a serious, but non-life threatening lower leg injury.

"Firefighter Moorman is now resting comfortably and has a long road ahead to recovery but is in good spirits and great hands," the statement read.

The department issues a public service announcement to move over and slow down near emergency scenes, adding "Today’s outcome, while tragic, could have been much worse."
