Old Style, the beer famously known as “Chicago’s beer since 1902,” is honoring the dedication, lives and risks taken by Chicago’s Bravest with the launch of the Chicago Heroes commemorative can.

The sales from these cans, which will become an instant collectable for Chicagoans and Old Style enthusiasts, alike, will benefit the Ende, Menzer, Walsh and Quinn (EMWQ) Retirees’, Widows’ and Children’s Assistance Fund, a local organization which provides financial assistance annually to the neediest widows and orphans of members of the Chicago Fire Department.

Old Style has a long history with the city of Chicago. In fact, many Chicagoans identify with the slogan, “Chicago Style is Old Style,” to describe the beer.

In an effort to connect with the community that has generously supported the brand throughout the years, Old Style is launching the Chicago Heroes program to pay tribute to a hard-working and honorable sector of the community.

The commemorative can, emblazoned with an image of a firefighter and details about the organization, will be available starting in August at Chicagoland retailers in individually sold 16 oz. cans.

Through December, proceeds from every purchase made will be donated to the organization (up to $20,000) to help support the families of the city’s fallen heroes.

“It’s important for our community and country to reflect on the everyday heroes who support us day after day, risking their lives to help keep us safe.” said Dan McHugh, CMO for Pabst Brewing Co. “This year, we’re honored that we can assist an organization that has tremendously supported Chicago firefighters and their families, donating almost all of their raised funds back to the community. It’s organizations like EMWQ Assistance Fund which better our community, and we know this can will be a fun and memorable way to engage Chicagoans in helping us give back.”

EMWQ Retirees’, Widows’ and Children’s Assistance Fund works each year to identify the families and children most in need of monetary donations. An annual gift is presented to the neediest widows – those who receive a pension of $1,000 to $1,500 a month and many without social security – as well as an annual gift to the orphaned children of members of the Chicago Fire Department.

The organization also provides immediate assistance to the children of an active member who passed away in the line of duty or off duty. A 22-year-old organization, the EMWQ Assistance Fund has provided more than $10 million dollars in assistance over the years through the generous support of active and retired firefighters and paramedics, the community, an annual charity softball event and more.

About Old Style Chicago Style is Old Style.

Old Style first appeared in local stores in 1902. Taking advantage of a nationwide bottlers strike and subsequent product rationing by a competitor, Old Style came across the state line into Illinois. It wasn’t long before Old Style became Chicago’s beer – served from the north side to the south side and everywhere in between Old Style is a beer that revives the crisp rich freshness of a classic Pilsner: light in color and body, medium in aroma and bitterness, full flavored with a delicate aftertaste.
