San Antonio crews took heat precautions as they tackled the blaze, which broke out at a nail salon in the plaza Monday night before spreading to other nearby businesses.

Around 100 San Antonio firefighters battled a large shopping center blaze Monday night, while also taking precautions against the summer heat.

The fire started in a nail salon in the plaza before moving up a wall and into an attack, KSAT-TV reports. Flames then spread to other businesses, incluidng a food store and laundromat, and that's when crews were able to get the blaze under control.

Along with the fire, San Antonio Fire Chief Charles Hood told KSAT that firefighters needed to be aware of the heat generated from the flames, as well as the high temperatures and humidity of the day. Firefighters working the call were required to have their vitals checked before returning to work, Hood added.

"These firefighters have been working since 9 a.m. this morning. They have been standing on the freeway, responding to homes. They had a very active day," Hood told KSAT. "So to be out in this heat, we have to make sure we are rehabbing them."

Despite the heat and fire, no injuries were reported.
