Watch OH Firefighter Rescue Cat from House Fire

Aug. 18, 2019
Three cats were pulled from a burning home by Lancaster crews, and one firefighter's helmet camera captured the smoke-filled scene inside the residence.

Footage from an Ohio firefighter's helmet camera shows a dramatic rescue of cat from a smoky, burning building.

Lancaster crews were battling a house fire that started in the kitchen Friday, the department stated in an online post. One person was able to escape the blaze, but three cats were trapped inside.

Firefighter Ryan Gard ran into the smoking the home along with other firefighters, checking the residence. That's when Gard discovered one of the felines and pulled it out of the blaze, capturing the rescue on his helmet camera.

"This video is a good representation of the zero visibility environment firefighters have to work in during a structure fire," the department statement.

The other two cats also were saved from the fire, and all three were taken to Diley Animal Hospital. Unfortunately, one of the cats didn't survive; the other two are still in stable condition, according to the department.

“Great work extinguishing the fire quickly and caring for all living things,” the department stated.
