Crews used a ladder to save two people trapped in the massive fire that spread to three southwest Detroit buildings, causing one of the structures to collapse.

A Detroit firefighter was injured while rescuing a woman from a two-alarm blaze early Friday.

Crews responded to the fire that spread to three buildings in southwest Detroit, WXYZ-TV reports. The blaze also caused one of the buildings to collapse.

When firefighters arrived at the scene, they found two people trapped on the second floor of one of the burning buildings. A ladder was used to reach the people, but one of the firefighters was hurt during the rescue.

"As they were coming down the ladder the lady slipped and fell against the firefighter, who fell backward up against a planter and banged his ribs up a bit," Detroit Deputy Commissioner Dave Fornell told WDIV. "He's going to be OK."

By about 6 a.m., crews had the fire under control. No one else was hurt in the incident, WDIV added.
