Flames engulfed the Lauderdale-by-the-Sea home, and it took firefighters about three hours to extinguish the blaze, according to a witness.

Five people—including three firefighters—were hospitalized following a Florida house fire early Sunday.

The blaze broke out at a home in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, WPLG-TV reports. Flames engulfed the house and could be seen shooting through the roof.

“There was smoke billowing out for quite a while, and about 15, 20 minutes later, it burst into flames,” a witness told WSVN-TV. “The flames burned for about three hours. It took the fire department about three hours to put the fire out.”

Two residents were able to escape the burning homes with their pets. The residents were taken to the hospital, and their condition was not known, according to WSVN.

Three firefighters—one from Lauderdale-by-the-Sea and two from Pompano Beach—were taken to the hospital, where they were treated for dehydration and smoke inhalation, WPLG added.
