CA Firefighter Falls from Ladder During Training

Video captured the Sacramento Metro firefighter's fall from a ladder in slick conditions during a live fire drill at a shuttered restaurant in Carmichael.

A California firefighter fell from a ladder during a live fire training drill Wednesday night.

The Sacramento Metro Fire Department were conducting the exercise at a closed Denny's restaurant in Carmichael, KOVR-TV reports. The drill involved setting the building on fire, which happened around 11 p.m., and it was an opportunity to give firefighters a chance to practice how to tackle a commercial restaurant fire at night.

During the exercise, a firefighter was climbing a ladder on the slick pavement and roof when he fell. Video from KOVR captured the fall, and the firefighter is seen quickly getting back up to his feet. The training, however, was still halted.

“When we have an injury like that, we want to stop, reset, make sure everybody feels good about continuing,” Capt. Chris Vestal told KCRA-TV.

Training eventually resumed without the firefighter, who will be monitored over the next few days, Vestal added.
