FL FF Creates Autism Sensory Boxes to Assist First Responders

April 25, 2022
Flagler County Fire Department Lieutenant Jon Moscowitz created an autism sensory box to assist with autism spectrum calls.

Flagler County Fire Lieutenant Jon Moscowitz created Brookie’s Box, an autism sensory box to help children with sensory overload deal with the stress of emergency calls.

Moscowitz’s daughter was diagnosed with autism early in her life. His firsthand knowledge of how situations can affect children with autism lead to his development of Brookie’s Box, Clickorlando.com reported.

Brookie’s Sensory Boxes are equipped with fidget and sensory toys, headphones, sunglasses, a liquid timer, and other items to help children in a stressful environment.

All Flagler County rescue apparatus have a Brookie’s Box onboard and Moscowitz is in the process of creating additional units for local and out of state departments.

In addition to Brookie’s Box, Moscowitz has created a training program to help EMS providers to better deal with someone with autism.
