Fire Engulfs Multiple Homes at Phoenix Construction Site

April 8, 2024
Phoenix fire officials said water supply was an issue as fire damaged multiple homes at a construction site.

Dozens of firefighters worked to stop a fire that spread through a Southwest Phoenix neighborhood Sunday night.

The fire, at Baseline Road and 59th Avenue, was reported about 11:30 p.m. when firefighters found several homes on fire at construction site.

“Because this is a new housing development, some of this water grid isn’t fully set up, some of our fire hydrants did not have connecting water to it,” Capt. Todd Keller told AZFamily.com.

A second alarm was called, bringing more than 75 firefighters from multiple cities to the scene, as flames left multiple homes burned down to the ground.

Aerial ladders were employed to put water on the fire, Fox10Arizona reported.

Officials said the Phoenix Fire Investigations Task Force was summoned to the scene to determine the cause of the fire.
