Double Fatal House Fire in Christiana, Delaware

On Friday July 28, 2006, at 11:46 pm, New Castle Fire Companies were dispatched to 207 Holly Cove Lane for a house fire with people trapped.

Christiana, Delaware -- On Friday July 28, 2006, at 11:46 pm, New Castle Fire Companies were dispatched to 207 Holly Cove Lane for a house fire with people trapped.

Arriving units found heavy fire and smoke showing . More than 70 firefighters from 12 fire companies fought the blaze in excessive heat for more than an hour. The fire was brought under control at 1:06 pm.

A women in her 20's and her 18 month old baby were pronounced dead Friday afternoon at Christiana Hospital. Both were in cardiac arrest when found.

Two firefighters were treated at Christiana Hospital -- one for heat exhaustion, the other for a minor knee injury.

The Delaware State Fire Marshal's Office is investigating. No cause had been announced by Friday evening.
