Apartment Building Fire in San Jose, California

Units from the San Jose Fire Department were dispatched to a two-story apartment building at 3860 Barker Drive on the city's west side after receiving reports of a vehicle fire endangering the structure at 1:50 pm on Saturday, September 3, 2005.

The first unit on scene discovered a fully involved van in the front driveway of the building with fire having already spread to the structure.

Evacuations and a preliminary search were immediately initiated, while a second-alarm was called for a rapidly spreading attic fire.

By the time the fire was declared under control at least four adults and one child had been displaced due to heavy fire, smoke and water damage throughout much of the second story of the structure.

There were no reports of injuries and the fire was contained to the single structure and vehicle.
