Illinois Firefighters Respond to Multi-Vehicle Rollover Accident

At approximately 9pm, on October 15th, the Crete, Illinois Fire Department received a call of a multi vehicle rollover accident on Northbound Interstate 394 at Steger Road.

At approximately 9pm, on October 15th, the Crete, Illinois Fire Department received a call of a multi vehicle rollover accident on Northbound Interstate 394 at Steger Road.

Upon arrival, Crete Command 700 (Chief Lyle Bachert) immediately reported a pin in crash with multiple trauma patients and requested a MABAS Div27 EMS box (#7022) to the first level for several ambulances to respond to the scene of the crash.

A ford utility type pick-up truck struck the rear of a dodge caravan stopped at the red light at Steger Road, at speeds over 70mph. The van then struck 2 more vehicles sitting at the stop light. The pick-up rolled over on its roof during impact, seriously injuring the driver.

The driver and passenger of the minivan were taken to St. James Trauma Center in Olympia Fields, Illinois in critical condition.

Crews remained on scene for about 3 hours while the Illinois State Police and the Crete Police Department conducted an investigation, which kept I394 shut down for 3 hours.
