A kitchen fire that spread through an apartment building Tuesday displaced a dozen families and drew firetrucks and ambulances from all over Hamilton County.

No one was injured by the fire, which broke out about 3pm in a Wabash Avenue building of the Centennial Estates complex.

At first, two maintenance men tried to put out the flames, but residents said the fire spread fast.

The small Lincoln Heights volunteer fire department say the automatic dispatch to two other agencies made all the difference in the outcome of Tuesday's fire.

Firefighters and medical technicians were on the scene from about a dozen area departments, including Cincinnati, Blue Ash, Reading, Greenhills, Springfield Township, Forest Park and Wyoming.
