We were in the 6th day of a mid 90's heat wave here in South Jersey. Camden Firefighters were hoping they would not have any hot working jobs coming in.

On August 4, 2005, the tones went out for Engine 1 , Rescue 1 and Batt Chief 1 (Matyjasik) to 400 Broadway, for a rescue assignment (update from fire radio).

Police reported a 1 year child locked in a car.

Engine 1 was first in with Captain John Church with Rescue arriving a few seconds later with Captain Herb Leary.

Battalion Chief Paul Matyjasik reported he had a small child locked in a parked car and the Rescue was going in service. Firefighter Orland Torres had the car door unlocked in less than 2 minutes and had the smiling 1 year old out, with her happy mother and father looking on.

Captain Church took the report with Camden Police and EMS.

The child was reported unhurt.
